Your Wedding Experience Should be a Reflection of You

Whether you're getting married in the historic Toronto distillery district, one of the many quaint Niagara wineries, an outdoor garden venue in London, Ontario, or even all the way across the ocean in a picturesque Italian villa, I believe your wedding inherently reflects who you are, and so should your photos.

It means I give you the space to experience your day as you're meant to. Sure I may guide you toward the best light, or suggest a location for you to get dressed, but I'm not there to be obtrusive or get in the way. I act as an observer with a lens.

What does that mean for you?

The day is yours!

I will never stop loving the beauty in the quiet, candid moments.

Candid photos are so important. They show who and how you truly are. I always love when clients thank me for taking a photograph of something they didn't even know I was there for. It means I've done my job right, and truly observed.

When you look back on your photos, I want you to relive these special moments and spontaneous kisses, the unavoidable snort you sometimes have when you really and truly laugh, the way you seamlessly reach out for one another,  the warmth of the tears on your cheeks during your best friend's speech - all these "little moments" are just as important as the big ones.

It's the little moments on those big days that mean everything.

I photograph in a photojournalistic way that celebrates everything from quiet, candid moments like a hand on the small of your back, or a whisper in your ear, to the big belly laughs that you'll inevitably get when - during his speech - your oldest friend reveals something embarrassing (yet hilarious) that happened when you were younger. Photos work best when you can be yourself. When you're acting like yourself you can relax, enjoy each other, and take in the moment.

Romance is a big part of why you're here, right? From the grand gestures, to the way you naturally fall into each other, to the simple anticipation of your partner's needs, it's these connections that you have with this person you are choosing to spend the rest of your life with that make you who you are together. Photographing you as you are naturally together allows me to capture these special moments.

Your wedding photos should stand the test of time and be just as relevant 60 years from now as they are today. To ensure this, I avoid fads and instead photograph and edit in a way that is true to life and reflects what it feels like to be there in the moment. So instead of seeing an outdated and once-trendy edit, future generations will see you

I am always available to help answer your questions or give my recommendations when you ask.

About 2-3 months before your wedding, I will send you a wedding questionnaire to gather all the important information about your wedding day and any special traditions taking place. It's an important tool to help customize your timeline and your list of family formals. This organization and attention to detail will allow you to relax and take in the moment on your wedding day.
Have a planner? That's excellent! Much of this will already be taken care of and the process will be streamlined.

Jessica was personable, easygoing and made the whole process easy and enjoyable. We felt very comfortable during both, the engagement and the wedding day shoots. She did a great job with candid photos (my favourite!), but also recognized that our more traditional family members preferred posed photos and ensured that there was a good mix of both. Even beyond the great photographs, she was full of advice and had creative solutions to the unexpected issues that arose in the planning of our day. She went above and beyond and we could not have as great a wedding as we had without her help. Jessica was amazing to work with and we wholeheartedly recommend her!

From our very first conversation it felt like we were dealing with an old friend.

We first met Jessica during our engagement shoot. She is so kind and laidback and just fit our personalities so well, I knew I made the right choice as having her as our photographer. She then photographed our wedding and captured all the fine details of our wedding, and even braved the rain to get the most beautiful photos.

She's never failed to provide the most high quality, and beautifully detailed photos. We absolutely loved working with her!

So many beautiful pictures to choose from. We love them all. Looking through them was a wonderful opportunity to live our day all over again. We are truly grateful that we got to work with her!

She got genuine and candid shots that we didn't even know she photographed in the first place.

Jessica is by far the best photographer I have ever worked with. She always made sure my needs were met, not only did she make sure I was happy with the pictures she was taking but she went out of her way to check on me and how I was feeling, due to my nerves before our wedding. I had a number of my wedding guests comment to say how great Jessica was.

Such an amazing experience, she is so easy to talk to.

Jessica is just downright amazing. She's exceptionally professional, kind and extremely accommodating. Jessica was our photographer for our wedding on Nov. 7. She came early to ensure she could scope out the place and plan ahead. She was delightful to work with.

Sometimes I forgot she was there because she knew where to be and how to be there without taking away from the moment. She had great ideas for pictures and didn't make anything feel 'fake'. I would recommend Jessica for any occasion! It was our honour to have you at our wedding.

Frequently Asked Questions

APPROACH & STYLE

WE ARE AWKWARD IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA. HOW CAN WE LOOK NATURAL IN OUR PHOTOS?

When we first meet, just about every client I have tells me they're awkward in front of the camera. It's completely normal. I promise. I'm there to guide you into natural interactions with your partner so that I capture real, genuine interactions and emotion, rather than stiff photos. Couples always end up telling me they had fun and it was way better and easier than they expected.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR EDITING STYLE?

Your wedding photos should be timeless, so I photograph and edit in the same way. Colours and skin tones are true to life and reflect what it was like to be there. I hand edit every image so that it reflects your wedding in the best possible way.

CAN WE INCLUDE OUR CHILDREN?

Of course! About half of my wedding clients have children before they get married and I love seeing the different ways couples choose to honour them on their big day. Having had a child myself before I was married, I know first hand how important it is to include them in your day, and if there's any way I can help them feel more included, I will.

CAN WE INCLUDE OUR DOG?

Yes, please! I love dogs!

Before the Wedding

SHOULD WE HAVE AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION?

I get it - you already feel awkward having your photo taken and you're stressed and busy with wedding planning. The last thing you want is to take time away for an engagement session. Maybe though, an engagement session is exactly what you need. It's a time for the two of you to reconnect during the stress of planning and it's a great excuse to get dressed up and spend some quality time together. Most couples have never been professionally photographed, so an engagement session is a great way to warm up for your wedding day. They are a great way for you to understand my approach and put you at ease. You'll learn that I'm there to guide you. Photos and prints from your session can be used at the wedding or for save the date cards.

WHAT'S A 'FIRST LOOK' AND SHOULD I HAVE ONE?

The first look is a modern tradition where the couple sees each other before their wedding ceremony. It's an opportunity for you to connect and have that first interaction on your wedding day in an intimate setting. Often, the first look naturally flows into the portrait part of your day, which frees up time after the ceremony for you to enjoy your guests. A first look is entirely up to you and your partner. Some couples want that time together and some couples have a vision of walking down the aisle (or being walked to) and don't want a first look. It is 100% your decision - and it doesn't have to be made now.

DO I NEED A SECOND PHOTOGRAPHER?

It really depends on your situation. Sometimes logistics require a second photographer such as if you and your partner are getting ready in different locations and both want photography coverage. Some other reasons you may need a second photographer are if you have a high guest count and want to be sure all your guests are photographed, or if you have a large wedding party, or if you want coverage of guests during your cocktail hour while you're taking portraits, or if you want two perspectives during the ceremony, or if you want more support during family photos, etc. The second photographers I work with are all wonderful, talented, people who photograph in a similar style and are professional photographers themselves. I edit their images so you can be sure they meet my expectations and are edited seamlessly in order to tell your story.

CAN YOU HELP US AT ALL IN THE PLANNING PROCESS?

Absolutely!
One of my goals as your wedding photographer, is to be a source of stability and act as a resource for you so you can have as stress-free an experience as possible.
I am happy to help develop a timeline that works best for you, as well as recommend some amazing vendors that I trust if you need help finding someone. While I'm no substitute for a wedding planner (they are worth their weight in gold!), I am there as a support person and can help answer your questions (photography related or not) and alleviate your concerns.

after THE WEDDING

HOW MANY PHOTOS WILL WE RECEIVE?

The number of photos you receive varies from wedding to wedding and depends on a number of factors like how many hours of coverage you have, how much travel time there is during the day, the number of guests, whether or not there's a second photographer, etc. Generally speaking, you can expect 80-100 photos per hour of coverage (more with a second photographer). I don't limit the number of photos you receive.

DO YOU OFFER PRINTS, AND ALBUMS?

Absolutely! If you've read my "about" page, you'll know that printed photos are a big reason I do what I do. A photo isn't truly complete until it's printed. By printing your photos, they exist beyond the precarious digital world, and instead survive in a tactile way that preserves your family's legacy. I work with a Toronto photo lab that is exclusive to professional photographers and offers luxury photo prints and products. Prints and albums are a way to honour your wedding and create an heirloom for those that matter most.

Business Policies & Details

DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH SAME-SEX WEDDINGS?

Unconditionally! I will forever support same-sex couples and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. I'm so sorry you even feel the need to ask this. I can't imagine feeling like you don't belong. No matter who you are, or who you love, I support you and you are welcome here.

WHAT'S YOUR RESCHEDULING POLICY SURROUNDING COVID-19?

COVID-19 has impacted us all and been particularly hard for those who are getting married. I continue to be as flexible as possible and allow rescheduling at no added cost provided I am available for your new date. If I'm not available, I am happy to work with a trusted and similar available associate photographer who would then be with you and photograph your on your wedding day. To ensure you still receive the same quality, style, and service, I would then edit and deliver your images to ensure they have my approval and you have the best possible photos.

WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

I photograph with two professional-grade Canon 5D Mark IV camera bodies. I wear both so I can capture multiple angles and focal lengths. When I teach photography, I teach that lenses are like a painter's brushes. Yes, every one will paint (i.e. take a photo) but it's important to have the right brush (lens) for the right job. It takes years of education, experience, and practice to know which tools to use when. I carry a variety of lenses and other camera equipment (macro lenses, reflectors, flashes, constant lights, light modifiers, etc.) as well as backup equipment. It sounds like a lot - it is - but it's not an encumbrance and doesn't slow things down. Instead, it's my tool box to capture the perfect photo no matter the time of day or situation.

DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH DESTINATION WEDDINGS?

Yes! I love destination weddings! I absolutely love the intimacy of them and the camaraderie of your guests throughout the week. I especially love that everyone in attendance is your nearest and dearest friends and family who love you most in this world. I also offer coverage during excursions and after the wedding. Reach out for more details.

DO YOU CHARGE FOR TRAVEL?

I don't believe in hidden or unexpected fees. I believe in making things simple. For weddings, travel within Ontario is included. For engagement sessions and elopements, there is a small flat travel fee beyond 100km from London, ON. Destination weddings are individually customized, reach out for more details.

HOW DO I BOOK YOU FOR MY WEDDING DAY?
